SYNOPSIS: In this article you’ll find the results of eROI’s e-mail analysis as to which are the best/worst days to e-mail market for both B2B and B2C markets. There’s also my usual semi-philosophical ramblings as a pre-cursor!
There are very few technologies which rule our everyday lives. TV is one. How many of us plan our evenings based on what's on the box? (Asking me to mow the lawn, fix a lightbulb (which blows every 15 minutes in my house for some reason) or help with the kid's homework when The Apprentice is on is like asking George Bush to construct a meaningful sentence -- unlikely.
There is another technology that utterly interferes with our daily life and screws up all but the most dedicated followers of time management -- e-mail. If ever I see the yellow envelope I have to check my e-mail. I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs. The only difference being that whilst Pavlov's dogs got a treat every time they reacted to the bell I seem to get some crappy e-mail about Viagra -- very demoralising.
(Incidentally, in one of those utterly ironic moments I received an e-mail directing me to a Google video from some marketing guru who described how great Gmail was because it didn't distract you with a new e-mail ‘ping’. It took him 25 minutes to say that! And perversely he was trying to save me time!)
Anyway, now I've got that off my chest I'll deal with the real point of this article...
If you regularly send e-mails to your customers then knowing when they are most likely to be read/acted upon is quite an important component in the mix. It's common sense to assume that anyone selling in the business to business market is wasting their time sending over the weekend but is Thursday a better day than Wednesday or Monday better than Friday?
Well, we can finally lay this to rest because eROI conducted a survey which answered this very question and, dear reader, I am kindly restating it for you here!
